This is the money you'd put into your own Amazon brand: mostly stock, plus what the launch needs. You own the seller account, the stock and the brand. Ecomadarsh's service fee is separate; we share it on the call.

How we worked this out

Every number comes from your budget and the standard planning values below. They are Ecomadarsh's planning assumptions, not results achieved by any seller or product.

  • Selling price vs cost: Ecomadarsh's standard planning target: the Amazon selling price is about 3 times what one unit costs once it reaches the warehouse. Below about 2.5 times, little is left after Amazon's fees and advertising.
  • Net profit per sale: What's left from each sale after Amazon's fees, advertising, returns and GST. In Jungle Scout's seller survey, more than half of Amazon sellers reported profit margins above 15% (2022 data). That survey only counts sellers still in business, so the Expected value is set a little below it.
  • Time to sell the first batch: Our planning assumption for how long the first batch takes to sell while a new listing builds sales and reviews.

How the budget is split

  • Stock (landed, incl. GST, duty and freight)70%
  • Launch ads15%
  • Brand and listing setup (trademark, photos, packaging design)10%
  • Buffer5%

Our standard split: most of the budget becomes stock. The rest covers launch ads, brand and listing setup, and a buffer for surprises.

First sale: around month 3 to 4

Research, samples, production, shipping and Amazon check-in usually take about 3 to 4 months before the first sale.

The sums

  • Stock at cost = budget × the stock share.
  • First batch sales = stock at cost × selling price vs cost.
  • Monthly sales = first batch sales ÷ months to sell the batch.
  • Monthly profit = monthly sales × net profit per sale.
  • Profit payback = budget ÷ monthly profit.
